Primary Aluminum Trader Position Summary
The Primary Aluminum Trader is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of customers and suppliers within the primary aluminum market, with a focus on ingots, billets, sow, and other primary aluminum products. This role combines business development, account management, commodity trading, and market analysis to drive profitable growth while delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate has experience trading primary aluminum products and a strong understanding of global aluminum markets, pricing mechanisms, logistics, and supply chain dynamics

Primary Aluminum Trader Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage a portfolio of customers purchasing primary aluminum products, including ingots, billets, sow, and other primary forms.
Build long-term B2B relationships with manufacturers, extruders, foundries, distributors, and industrial customers.
Identify and develop new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, and market research.
Source material from domestic and international suppliers while maintaining strategic supplier relationships.
Negotiate purchase and sales contracts to maximize profitability while meeting customer requirements.
Monitor and interpret aluminum market conditions, including LME pricing, regional premiums, freight, currency fluctuations, and global supply-demand trends.
Prepare quotations and negotiate pricing based on current market conditions and company objectives.
Coordinate with logistics providers, warehouses, and internal operations to ensure timely delivery of materials.
Work closely with finance and operations to manage inventory positions, shipment schedules, and contract execution.
Resolve customer concerns promptly while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline activity, CRM records, and market intelligence.
Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and customer visits to strengthen relationships and identify growth opportunities.
Ensure compliance with company policies, international trade regulations, and contractual obligations.
Primary Aluminum Trader Qualifications/Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Metallurgy, Engineering, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
3+ years of experience trading primary aluminum products, including ingots, billets, sow, or similar commodities.
Strong knowledge of aluminum pricing mechanisms, including the London Metal Exchange (LME) and regional premiums.
Experience negotiating commercial contracts and managing customer accounts.
Understanding of international trade, logistics, freight, and supply chain operations.
Proven ability to develop new business and grow customer relationships.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate commodity market trends and pricing risks.
Preferred Qualifications
Existing network within the aluminum, metals, or manufacturing industries.
Experience with imports, exports, and international suppliers.
Knowledge of aluminum alloys, extrusion billet specifications, foundry alloys, and customer applications.
Experience working in a fast-paced commodity trading environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Primarily office-based work environment.
Occasional travel may be required.
Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
